Q: How should I handle telemarketer calls?

A: Make sure you understand the offer before agreeing to anything and ask for the offer in writing.  Be cautious when giving out personal information like your social security number, financial information and phone number.

Q: Why does my phone start ringing after I hang it up and no one is there?

A: If your phone is not properly hung up, it could ring back to you.  The proper way to hang up a cordless phone is to push the release, goodbye, off or hang up button.  On a wall or desk phone the proper way to hang up is to place the handset in the cradle to hold down the switch hook.  If you depress the switch hook too quickly or for too short of time, you are not allowing enough time for the call to be disconnected.  The switch hook will then act like the flash button.  The system will think that you have put the call on hold (3-way call) and the phone will ring back to remind you that your call is still on hold.

Q: Which service is best for me Measured Metro or Flat Metro?

A: Measured service is the service for you if you call into the metro area less than 53 minutes per month.  If you have Internet service check the dial up number that you are using.  You may be billed $0.125 per minute on the Measured service while using the Internet.  If you are a customer that calls into the metro in an excess of 53 minutes than the Flat Metro is the better choice for you.

Q: What is the difference between Intralata and Interlata calling areas?

A: Minnesota is divided into 5 calling latas.  The lata that you live in is the Intralata calling area.  Greater Minnesota and out of state is the Interlata calling area.  It is possible to have a long distance carrier for each lata.  Refer to your Connections, Etc. telephone directory for a map indicating the calling latas.

Q: Is it necessary to dial the area code when I call my local area including metro calls?

A: Connections, Etc. recommends using the 10 digits in all of your local dialing.
