E-Mail Advisory--Action Needed

To protect you and all our customers further from spam and viruses, we will soon be requiring additional settings on your e-mail accounts-and you must take action to ensure e-mail works from your computer. This includes any e-mail address ending in @izoom.net, @sherbtel.net, @connections-etc.com, or if your business is hosted by us (e.g. @yourbiz.com).

You may already have the settings in place, but we recommend you check to make sure (which should only take you about five or ten minutes). Your new settings will be required by November 17th 2008.

Please use the instructions below for your version of software. If you need more assistance, please call Internet Technical Support (see number below).

SMTP Authentication for Outlook 2007

  1. Open Outlook 2007
  2. From the Tools menu select Account Settings.
  3. Click on the Izoom account to highlight it, and click on the Change icon above it.
  4. Under the Server Information section, Click the button More Settings
  5. Click on the tab Outgoing Server.
  6. Click the check box My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
  7. Click OK.  Click Finish.  Click Close.
  8. SMTP authentication has now been enabled.

SMTP Authentication for Outlook Express and Outlook 98/2000 for Windows

  1. Open Outlook Express or Outlook 98/2000.
  2. From the Tools menu select Accounts.
  3. Select the Mail tab. Your email account appears, usually labeled mail.izoom.net.
  4. Click on  your email account and click the Properties button on the right.
  5. Select the Servers tab.
  6. Under the Outgoing Mail Server section check the box My server requires authentication.
  7. Click OK.  Click OK.  Click the Close. 
  8. SMTP authentication has now been enabled.

SMTP Authentication for Outlook XP, Outlook 2002, and Outlook 2003

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Email Accounts.
  3. Select View or change existing email accounts and click Next.
  4. Click on your Izoom email account, and click the Change button.
  5. Under the Server Information section, Click the button More Settings.
  6. Click the Outgoing Server tab.
  7. Select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication option.
  8. Click OK.  Click Finish.
  9. SMTP authentication has now been enabled.

SMTP Authentication for Vista Windows Mail

  1. Load (open) Windows (Vista) Mail
  2. From the main screen open the 'Tools' menu and then select 'Accounts...'
  3. Click on the email account to modify - this will cause it to become highlighted
  4. Click on the 'Properties' button
  5. The Properties window should appear
  6. Click on the 'Servers' tab
  7. Under 'Outgoing Mail Server' tick 'My server requires authentication'
  8. Click 'Settings' button
  9. Select 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server'
  10. Click the 'Ok' button
  11. Click the 'Close' button.

SMTP Authentication for Mozilla Thunderbird

  1. Open Thunderbird.
  2. Select Tools > Account Settings... from the menu at the top of the screen.
  3. The Account Settings window will appear on the screen.
  4. Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the white pane on the left side of the window, then click the Edit... button on the right side of the window.
  5. The SMTP Server window should appear.
  6. In the bottom half of the window under Security and Authentication, make sure the checkbox next to Use name and password is checked, and make sure your email username is entered into the box to the right of the words User Name:. Click OK.
  7. The Account Settings will reappear. Click OK to exit.
  8. When you send an email, Thunderbird will ask for your password. Type it in and save it to be used automatically by Thunderbird if you wish.

SMTP Authentication for Mac Mail (OS 10.0-10.2 Jaguar)

  1. Open the Mail Program.
  2. Click on Mail and select Preferences.
  3. Click the Accounts icon.
  4. Select your email account from the pane on the left and click the Edit button on the right.
  5. At the bottom of the Account Information page, under the Outgoing Mail Server field, click the button labeled Options....
  6. On the SMTP Server Options screen, enter mail.izoom.net for the Outgoing Mail Server.
  7. There will be a field labeled Authentication with a drop-down field to the right. Select Password from the options in the drop-down field.
  8. In the User Name field, type your email username and put your email password in the Password field.
  9. Click OK.
  10. Close all settings windows to return to Apple Mail and you're done!

SMTP Authentication for Mac Mail (OS 10.3 Panther-10.4 Tiger)

  1. Open the Mail Program.
  2. Click on Mail and select Preferences.
  3. Click the Accounts icon.
  4. Select your email account from the Accounts pane on the left. Your Account Information should appear on the right.
  5. At the bottom of the Account Information page, under the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) field, click the button labeled Server Settings....
  6. On the Outgoing Mail Server screen, enter mail.izoom.net for the Outgoing Mail Server. There will be a field labeled Authentication with a drop-down field to the right. Select Password from the options in the drop-down field.
  7. In the User Name field, type your email username and put your email password in the Password field.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Close the Preferences window to return to Apple Mail and you're done!
