Why Doesn't My Phone Work?
Before you call...these simple tests may help determine the source of the problem.  These tests may save you time and money!
Problem: No dial tone, your phone rings once and then cuts off or static is on your line.

1. Check all telephone cords from the jack to the telephone base and from the telephone base to the handset to make sure they are not loose or damaged.
   
2. If you own a cordless phone, unplug it from the electrical power supply as well as the telephone jack.
   
3. Make sure all telephones are hung up properly, and all additional equipment such as answering machines, fax machines, caller ID units and computer modems are working.  To check, unplug each phone piece of equipment from the telephone jack and the electrical outlet, if applicable.  Leave everything unplugged for 5 minutes.  Then try plugging in the equipment one at a time to see if the trouble still exists.
   
4. If all equipment is working, test to determine if the problem is inside or outside your home or office.
   
   
   1. Take a working phone (single line desk is preferred) to the telephone network interface device located at your residence.  This is normally located near your electric power meter outside.
      
   2. Remove the modular plug from the test jack in the telephone network interface box and insert the modular plug from the working telephone. If the same problem occurs at this point, the problem may be in the telephone line and not inside the home.  Call Connections, Etc. at 763.262.4120 to report a trouble on your line.

If the same problem does not occur, the actual problem may be in your equipment inside the home with wiring or jacks; you have several options when this occurs.

1. If you subscribe to our Rapid Repair service we will repair your jack or wiring at no extra charge.
   
2. If you do not subscribe to our Rapid Repair service, we will still repair the problem with a trip charge of $56.50 along with charges for repair time and materials.
   
3. You can repair the problem yourself.
   
4. You can have your own home repair expert fix the problem at your own expense.
